BOBS AND CURLING FOR 1930'S HAIR (WEEK 4)

1930's Wavy bob...

Products used:
Tongs
Combs/brushes
Hairspray
Pins&grips
Shine spray
Heat protector spray
Sectioning clips

Things to consider adding to kit:
Hood dryer
Mason Pearson (hair brush)
Hot stick 2 pack (Nicky Clark)
Hair net
Chignon

  • Begin by side parting the hair (on either short or long haired model chosen.) Brush the bigger parted side back to help train the curls to go in wanted direction. Turn curlers on straight away to allow them to heat to correct temperature. (20-23 degrees.)
  • Part the hair again behind the ear and clip the excess hair at the back of the head. You're then left with a small collection at the front of the head.
  • Start sectioning this bit in a zig-zag shape starting from the first created parting.
  • Take the first small parted piece of hair, spray heat defence onto hair then wrap around curling wand for a couple of seconds. (Avoid curling ends of hair.)
  • Once the hair is curled release it by using the end of your pin-tail combs and gently pushing it off the wand. Ensure you keep its shape and clips using sectioning clips before it cools. (If you don't set it before it cools the shape will be lost.)
  • Do this to each bit of sectioned hair down towards the ears still considering the zig-zag styled sectioning. (See image 2 and 3.)
  • Part the hair again behind the ear at the opposite side of the head and repeat the process however the only different is wrap the hair around the wand in the opposite direction. (See image 4.)
  • Now the front of the hair is prepped. Remove any clips from the back of the head.
  • Take a little bit of hair from the top of the head behind the prepped curls. (see image 5 below.) and curl with wands, do not take the wand all the way to the root as we are only trying to create loose curls that will fall over the bob to make it looks more realistic. Create around 3-4 curls and grip.
  • The remainder of hair is lightly back-combed. Collect the hair and tie a bobble around the bottom. Now fold under from the bobble and roll up the back of the head like when creating a hair roll.
  • Clips at the nape of the neck. Cross the grips over one and other to help hold the hair in place. (See image 8.)
  • The pins/clips can be slowly removed from the curls created at the back of the head. Once removed gently pull through the curls using the end of a pin-tail comb. This will create a lose, wavy effect that can hang over the bob, making it look more realistic. The ends of the waves can be gripped under the bob to.
  • The curls at the front of the head can also be released. Combing through them creates a much bigger wave adding to the 20's style. Pins the ends down under the hair to prevent the small wispy bits being visible. (This is seen from image 9 onwards.)
  • Add hairspray and shine spray.
