Time assessment,
my role as make-up artist
creating my partners design...
Creating the design during the assessment...
Evaluation.
I was the make-up artist for Phoebe Jacob-Epstein's design, my parter. I was given an hour and a half to produce both a hair and make-up design my partner had put together. She chose Shannon Mcgowan to be the model of the look. I think she suited the role of Sally Bowle's perfectly with the traditional dark brown hair like the original character.
Make-up:
The face chart and step by step instructions of how to create the design were all put up on the mirror and made it very clear and easy for me to follow. I hopefully did applied everything to her standard and wanted look but was most worried about the eyebrows as I have never blocked any out before. Still looking at the image now I think it could have been done much more successfully and effectively with practice. It was quite difficult bringing up the strong green eye-shadow up to the eyebrow without it sitting on the brow and making it visible again. My models lips were also quite chapped so it made it much more difficult to apply the lip colour then the eye-shadow on top without cracking being visible. I should have had some lip ex-foliater in my kit to prevent this problem from happening. But overall I think the assessment went okay, much better than I expected.
Hair:
However my partners hair design was a little more difficult as I don't think she totally knew what she was doing design wise with the whole head but she wanted it all swept to one side and curly but not in a short-bob. I felt like I kind of made it up as I was going along with some of it as I didn't know if to set the curls like I did or just leave them to fall as I think certain details like that were excluded from her design. Even though it wasn't all that clear I really enjoyed creating the hair design as I love creating a sleek, shiny look on dark hair. It produces such a clean, fresh finish. The length of the model hair made it a little harder to curl and set as the wait of it prevented some of the pins from staying in and the length made it a little harder to fit the whole length on the wand but it was completely worth the battle as I think it payed off in the final images. I love that the curls are still quite tight but by brushing through them its brought them all back up towards the shoulder creating a really full shape and texture.
